Our final lesson for
Smart School is this Friday. We will meet with
David Saylor from Scholastic. He was the AD for all 7 US Harry Potter books illustrated by the wonderful
Mary GrandPre. His assignment was for us to do either a book cover or poster for Harry Potter. He challenged us to show him in a different way. I ended up building on sketch I drew awhile ago with digital textures and color. This assignment challenged me more than any of the others. Here is the result. Thanks for all the instruction and guidance, Rebecca. We'll see how it goes on Friday.

Thank you Johanna. (I really like your profile picture).
Sweet! Such rich textures....
I love your portrait of Harry Potter! It would be cool if you did other portraits from the series of the other characters (Hermione and Ron, etc.) in this style...hint, hint. :) Good luck on Friday!
Has a nice, ethereal quality.
Beautiful bunch of layering here--or what looks like layers of color and pattern! I also think this Harry looks more like a British schoolboy than the image that we're used to. So, so nice!
Very nice, very impressed!
magical Kim, such a wonderful and rich piece. I love the light and how you have used color, shadows and reflections... i would most certainly be curious about a book that had this cover!
Unbelievable paintings, with very natural colors and texture.
Well done! Look forward to hearing your final assessment of the this online version of the IMC.
My thanks to each of you for taking the time to comment.
