Thank you everyone. **John: I just use .03 and .05 2B and 4B mechanical pencils. Currently, I'm sketching in a 9"x9" 70lb. "Bee Paper" Recycled sketchbook. My first. Interesting grain and texture in the surface. I do a lot of squinting (or simply remove my glasses ;~}) for placement of values and usually start with the obvious angles, working more from the inside out. One thing I've learned that helps me is walking away from the sketch several times in the process. Truly helps when I return to it with fresh eyes. I smudge my graphite quite a bit and then lift out with my kneaded eraser, then reinforce with the graphite. Hope that helps.
Ach. I have been away from fastidiously checking my blog roll for months now. It is such a treat to come to your blog and see all your flowing, magical, haunting works. They have the best feel about them!

Love it! I'd also like some details about your process and materials, maybe even some in-progress shots...

Oh thank goodness! I'm not the only one who saves ad inserts for future reference drawings.
Another excellent render Kim!
Thanks Brian. Yes, my files are packed full of them. (I'm really liking your Leyendecker cover).
