I'm assuming that this sketch is in futher development since I saw it; no more smirking. But he still seems asleep. Maybe you just worked on his lips and haven't gotten to his eyes yet.

Correct.

Stunningly beautiful, he looks like he is remembering something, something precious that he vows he will never forget.

I don't think he looks asleep mom. You had mentioned that the title of this picture is "Submission". Like I said to you earlier, in my opinion, if it's a submission out of shame, then I think he would have his eyes looking down. But if it's a humble submission, then I would have the eyes closed. It's hard to explain, but that's what I think. But mom, this really is a beautiful, moving picture. I love the contrast of light and darkness. I think this is one of your better "sketches". And why you call it a sketch, I don't know, because that is a work of art. Beautiful.

Thank you for your comments. I need to step into this picture to discover how I will interpret the feelings I want to express. Though I am very grateful for the paying commissions, I would love to draw only what I want. Dream on.....

At least you're getting paid to do work for other people. I've been stuck doing art for family for no pay at all, and not particularly anything I want to do. Just paint an old photo here, do my portrait there... I'm doing a portrait of my late grandfather, who passed last december, for my father. I do want to make that one special in some way. This drawing though is stunningly beautiful. I can't peel my eyes off. There's a lot of emotion permeating from his placid face, as well as a great deal of thoughtfulness. Lovely! Absolutely lovely!
