Old Project #3

This is from an old sketch. I loved the shape of the dreads tied up. First swipe. Will let dry and then on to second layer. Don't look at the beard...I'm saving it for last since I haven't a clue yet how to approach it.

Project Update

As I've continued to work on these for a few hours each day, they have taken on new purpose for me. I've renamed them too, as the reason for painting them is becoming clearer to me and what I hope to communicate.

Forgotten Project #2

Oh man, this is embarrassing. I can't even remember when I started this one either. Worked on it most of the afternoon. I had the under painting already down on this canvas with some of the flesh and things blocked in. Changed up my palette for this one. Used the colors listed on Aaron Miller's blog for John Singer Sargent.

Dusting Off Old Projects

Growing up, my dad had all these clever little idioms that were impressed upon me through out my childhood (and well into adulthood). Sayings like, "pay the price"and "finish what you start". Well, after IMC and Greg Manchess' lecture on "There is NO talent gene", I've recommitted myself to finish what I started, no matter what. Here is a painting I started...well, I can't remember when I started it. It's amazing how OFF I was on this. Measurements are completely wrong. Even now, I can tell I've got to fix the bow and the forehead, the jaw....BUT, I will PAY THE PRICE and work until this is correct and I've learned something from it. There are plenty more in the pile and it will take awhile but I'm committed to this "Deep Practice" (Hear that, Mr. Manchess).
