Painting Update

Finally updating. I keep forgetting to take pictures during the day. Today I remembered but the light was quickly waning so the shadows and glare are very present on these. Since attending MIC in Amherst, I have been experimenting with a variation of the technique taught there using vellum instead of the heavy duty Strathmore Bristol. I can't find a copy center that will allow me to run the paper through their machines so I've been drawing my sketch on 80 gm vellum and then securing it on a piece of bristol that's been matted on to masonite board. I like the fact that the integrity of the sketch is preserved for the final painting. The bummer is if I make a mistake matting it, there goes my sketch. Like I said: I'm experimenting. Once again, I'm attempting this technique with Fireflies for the 4th or 5th time.....I've lost count.

Your work is beautiful! Nice that you are giving oils a try... they're my favorite! And you handled the medium very well here. Oh, and thank you for adding me to your website listie!

Don't you scan your sketch before you try to mount it? That way, if something happened, you may even be able to print it out on vellum (or something else) again and remount. I *always* scan my sketches or drawings before the next step. Too chicken not to!
