crave: To need urgently; require
As I am on the final finish of this current commission, my hands simply CRAVE to sketch something, anything that isn't remotely related to this children's book. Sometimes it's healthy to take a break, or so I rationalized. I pulled out a fresh piece of watercolor paper and sharpened my brand new Blackwing pencil and began a sketch of one of my sons. He's currently out of state and I only hear from him sporadically. Somehow, I felt closer to him with each pencil stroke.

Your art is so amazing, and your son looks like a really interesting person (in a good way!) :-)
Thank you Sarah. He is interesting in a good way.
Great drawing, Kim!
Wow. That blows me away. That is a fantastic drawing. It's so powerful - he must love it!
Thanks John and Kim.
Kim,
I love this portrait of your son!
It's beautiful. It has a mystic feel to it. I really love the treatment of the background. Is this all with graphite? How do you like the Blackwing pencils? Is it easier to go really dark than regular graphite?
Since working, I have been away from art, now looking at your blog and what you have accomplished is so impressive and inspiring. I was always drawn to your work and your talent just continues to grow. You have always inspired me to draw, and you still do by just creating such beautiful work. I now feel like picking up my pencils again.
Thanks Kim!
Thanks so much, Jennie. Yes, I do like the Blackwing pencils, especially on watercolor paper. I still love my old mechanical but Blackwings come in second. This is all graphite but then I scan it in and add a multiplied texture layer and lower it's opacity. PLEASE! You must pick up your pencils again because it would be a huge waste of talent. Thanks again for commenting, Jennie.
I do adore this one Kim. xxxx
Thanks, Tara.
