Revisiting Old Ideas

Since learning some new techniques, I've wanted to return to some of my older ideas and try a different approach. Plus, I have so many references from the photo shoot for this colored pencil drawing I did back in 2006?, it seemed a shame not to use them. Here is the old drawing. I am grateful that it made it into Spectrum 14 and it is fun to see it on the Verithin packaging but YIKES! There's so much I would like to fix, if I could. (That hand!! let me redo the hand!).

"Prelude to a Kiss"

So, using another photo and building upon what I've learned...hopefully, I've started another painting. Here is the new one...very rough, but it's all I had time for today. I began with a sketch, scanned it in and used a watercolor texture layer (thanks, Abigail Ryder) to start my digital painting. I'll post more as I progress.

Both are gorgeous pieces. I can understand looking back at previous work and wanting to make changes. Its seems to be an inbuilt habit of all artists.

The new piece looks so peaceful, I love it so far.

hello Kim,

dreamy wonderful are the words that come to me as I see these pieces. how fun that you are visiting old pieces with new eyes and techniques.

Technique and the ability of an artist are indeed to be admired and sometimes sought after, yet for me it is the spirit of a piece that touches me and inspires me to look and look.

I would think if an art company chose your art to represent them on a product, that they are finding your art to be highly regarded with both!

Kim, this is lovely. I think the composition is stronger in this new piece than in the original. What a great start! I love the watercolor effect, and this piece does NOT look digital. Can't wait to see the finish.
