Back From my Adventure

"Well, I'm back", as Samwise Gamgee says at the conclusion of LOTR.
It's been quite an adventure with our newest family member. I've been out of state, helping with little Jonah. Time to get my head back in the game of art. Yesterday was such a tragic day with the deaths of all those children and adults in Connecticut. As I thought of the courage those children displayed just to walk out of that school my mind wandered to Bilbo...maybe because I had been listening to a review of the Hobbit on the radio when the news hit of the school shooting. I don't mean to minimize the horrific events with this sketch, but I believe Tolkien understood the little guy. The simple, ordinary person who walks into danger with only his loyalty to friends, his commitment to his quest, and his heart full of courage.

welcome home!

i love Jonah's name....

yes, tragic yesterday!
also tragic every day the wars the USA wages in other countries where innocent people and yes children are killed. i do hope that values for life on our planet change during my lifetime.

i enjoyed your comparison with the hobbit, for the stories we tell do spring from real life, even our imaginations....

sending a warm smile to you.

Excellent render Kim! I think referring to The Hobbit (book or film) is a perfectly appropriate response to darkness that can seem overwhelming.

Wow. Fantastic sketch. I saw the movie last Friday. I'm curious to hear what you think. As a fanatic Lord of the Rings fan, it fell a bit short of my expectations. But I'd love to see you do a sketch of Thorin/Richard Armitage. *swoon*
