The Lumatere Chronicles

 Do you like...
wonderful world building, unpredictable plot twists, rich mythology and believable (and to-die-for) characters...oh yeah, and romance...?

...then give the Lumatere Chronicles a try.
I have been down and out with a sinus infection which gave me the excuse to do some reading. I really enjoyed Finnikin of the Rock when I read it over a year ago. So when the sequel came out, I thought I'd skim through the pages just to refresh my memory and ended up re-reading the entire book. I had forgotten how much Melina Marchetta can make you care for her characters. Book #2 of the Lumatere Chronicles is titled, Froi of the Exiles, and is even better than the first. WOWZA is all I can say. When you can take a small, quite unlikable character from the first book and built a story around him and at the end have not only compassion and understanding for him, but a serious crush on him to boot,...well, that is the work of a master wordsmith. The sad news is that book #3, Quintana of Charyn will not be here in the USA until 2013. Anyone who is a fan of Megan Turner's Thief series, Sherryl Jordan's Secret Sacrament or Sherwood Smith's Inda quartet will love these.

Just a little off subject, but somewhat related to your post here ...

How do you feel about photography being predominately used in cover design for YA books instead of illustration?

ACK! Brian...don't get me started. The bane of illustrators: the photo manipulated cover with vectored embellishments. Add the single word title and you've got a book that looks like every other YA cover out there (baaa!) I can't tell them apart or keep them straight. Unfortunately, according to a few art directors I've talked to, they are the rage and are here to stay for awhile because that is what the publishers want. I mean, just look at your profile picture Brian. How beautiful and engaging is that?! I would pick up a book with that cover in a heartbeat over these Lumatere covers.

EEk Kim, these sound just my cup of tea! I am going to have to order the first one immediately!! I was just looking for a new book, thank you! Have been most fed up as I was longing to get the Kingkiller chronicles on audio for my boy, when he was ill last year i read book 1 to him and he loved it, but now he's better and being a teen having Mom read is not cool. But having no success at all, hmmph, may have to read them again myself & record it for him lol, ;-)

Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts on what brings you peace.
I absolutely loved your words about the beauty of the moment, the music, the vision of the birds. Moments like that are so heart stopping & take your breath completely away don’t they. Love that you have a treasure pocket too!
Have a beautiful weekend.
